Dr. Dominique Chu a lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Kent, UK. Throughout his career he has been exposed to a number of fields in science. He obtained his undergraduate degree (master in theoretical physics) from the University of Vienna specializing in Quantum Mechanics. His PhD is in theoretical physics and was obtained from the University of Bergen (Norway) in 2001. The thesis was not entirely technical but concentrated on the use of complex systems models to solve real world problems. While he was formally a student at the department of physics, his office was located within the inter-disciplinary Centre for the Study of the Sciences and the Humanities at the University of Bergen and he was supervised by a Professor of this centre. During his PhD he was exposed to philosophy and sociology of science. To this day he maintains research interests in this field, specifically relating to the philosophy of complex systems and biology. He is still publishing specialist research articles in this field.
After his PhD he did a postdoc in a computer science department and re-oriented my research interests to systems biology. Since joining the University of Kent first as a RCUK Academic Fellow and then as a lecturer he has established close collaborations with researchers in biosciences and have published extensively in biological journals, including the Journal of Theoretical Biology and the Journal of Molecular Biology.
